It is the belief of Cedar Springs Public Schools that each child is treated as an individual. Cultural differences are appreciated and respected. Support is given to students in grades K-12 on an individual basis to work on English language acquisition and provide academic support. Once the student has been assessed in reading, writing, speaking and listening, a program is implemented for each student. The frequency of service delivery depends on each student's needs. We help English Learners with assimilation into a new culture by supporting them socially and academically. EL staff work with the general education teachers of English Learners to adapt and modify curriculum and to reinforce classroom objectives. Staff work together to prioritize the general curriculum goals to be taught and utilize instructional tools such as building academic vocabulary and building background knowledge for academic achievement. Communications such as newsletters are available in both English and Spanish. Spanish translating services are also available to families at Parent/Teacher Conferences. For more information, please contact your building secretary.
