Cedar Springs Public Schools

Purpose. Potential. Pride.
Heidi Reed Board President

Heidi.Reed@csredhawks.org
Term Expires:  2022

I am a wife, mother, and businesswoman who lives in the city of Cedar Springs. I have been married for 33 years to Steve Reed. We are both graduates of Cedar Springs Public Schools. Together we have 3 boys; Trey, Thomas, and Trevor. For 27 years, I have been responsible for property management issues, finance and compliance for over 1,300 families at 48 locations in Michigan. I

wanted to join the School Board because I have a sense of duty to this community and I am community-centered. I will keep kids first in decisions, by asking the question "who benefits?" I will be financially focused and look for the highest and best use of taxpayer dollars. My main goal is to do what I can to help Cedar Springs Public Schools achieve and improve. We have multiple challenges ahead; first meeting all students' needs with limited funding. My work and life experiences will be an asset to the School Board.

My hobbies include attending my kid's activities, research and reading, visiting the lake, estate sales, and being a Dyslexia advocate. I am so very thrilled to be part of the Cedar Springs Public Schools School Board.

I graduated from Rockford High School in 1997, Taylor University in 2001 with a B.A. in Social Work, and the IU School of Social Work with my Master's degree in 2005. After living in Indiana for college and grad school, my husband and I moved back to Michigan and settled in the city of Cedar Springs in 2007. I have been married to my husband for over 18 years and have three fun-loving, active boys.

I wanted to join the School Board because I want to do my part to ensure that Cedar Springs Public Schools are a positive transformative force in the lives of young people. Working with youth has always been my passion and joy. I care deeply about seeing students have every opportunity possible to use their gifts and abilities to flourish and reach their fullest potential.

My hobbies include camping, hiking, swimming, boating, biking, running - I've grown up loving most outdoor activities, especially with my family and on youth trips. I also find great contentment in playing cards or a good board game. However, my favorite pastime is watching my boys play sports and participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities.

My wife and I were married in August 2000. We moved to Cedar Springs in July 2014 to be close to our family; plus we love the area. We have 2 children in Cedar Springs Public Schools and one who will start in a few years. My wife grew up in the Cedar Springs area. Her parents and siblings are still in the area. I grew up in an educational household; both my parents were school teachers. My Father-in-law is a school teacher as well. I have a strong desire to help provide the best for the schools.

Quality education is the key to our children's future. I wanted to help ensure a quality educational environment and opportunity for my kids and all the children in the Cedar Springs school district.

I have worked for Consumers Energy since 1999 in various roles and increasing the scope of leadership.

My hobbies include sharing the outdoors with my children fishing and hunting. I also enjoy baseball and softball. I transitioned from playing to helping with little leagues and supporting my kids' coaches.

My family moved to West Michigan when I was in 7th grade. I graduated from Rockford High School and continued my education with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at Western Michigan University. After I graduated, I did a lot of substitute teaching in the Cedar Springs area and was impressed with the quality of the faculty and the students. My husband and I bought our first house here in 2003 and had our first daughter in 2004. We have 3 children: Alex, Josephine, and Dominic.

I am involved in the PTO at Cedar Trails and have friends at many of the different buildings here. I am still impressed by our wonderful staff and their dedication to helping our students. I became involved in the Cedar Springs Board of Education because I am sick of just sitting at home complaining. I think it is important to get involved. Our schools are drastically underfunded, and I want a say in how the money is spent. I am ready to make the difficult decisions to keep our students achieving at a high level.

I’ve lived in the Cedar Springs school district for 18yrs! I built a house in the CSPS school district after deciding this is where I wanted to raise my family. I’ve been raising my 4 amazing children, Emily, Cameron, Myla, and Ellie. They’ve all been strong athletes and students in Cedar Springs and we are a very involved family within our schools, sports, and community. I’ve been widowed for 9 years and dedicated myself to proudly raising these awesome children! Life is an amazing journey and I believe in embracing every moment, being the best person I can be, and sharing my talents to make the world a better place.

I’m a graduate of Rockford High School and Grand Valley State University, where I earned my Bachelors in PR/Advertising and minor in Communications. I’m loving my career at Greater Kalamazoo Auto Auction/XLerate group as a Digital Sales Account Manager. I have a lot of experience holding positions on nonprofit boards. My hobbies include traveling and watching my children at their sports events.

I decided to run for the school board as education is so important to me and I see Cedar Springs as a strong community with a lot of academic and athletic talent. I want to ensure that we continue to build our district even more! I also want to ensure that we have academic programs for all learning levels to help every student graduate and be successful in their lives.
