McKinney-Vento and Foster Care

Cedar Springs Public Schools is committed to helping every student learn and feel supported, even during times of change. Through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Act and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), we work to remove barriers to education for students experiencing homelessness or foster care.

Our program is provided in partnership with the Kent Intermediate School District and the State of Michigan. We work closely with families, child welfare agencies and community partners to support school stability, provide access to services, and help students succeed in a safe, inclusive learning environment.

McKinney-Vento

'Homeless Resources'

Cedar Springs Public Schools’ homeless program is provided collaboratively with the Kent Intermediate School District and the State of Michigan.  In accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Act of 2001, our program strives to eliminate barriers to education for homeless children and youth by addressing and supporting the educational needs of students who find themselves in temporary or transitional housing during the school year.

Foster Care

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 requires school districts to ensure that children and youth experiencing foster care have educational stability and access to services comparable to those provided to all students.

Cedar Springs Public Schools is committed to ensuring that students in foster care placements receive a high-quality education in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. The district works collaboratively with families, child welfare agencies, and community partners to promote school stability, academic success, and overall well-being for students in foster care.

To request services for a student in foster care, please contact the District's Foster Care Liaison, Devon Raap or by phone at (616) 696-1204 x5906.
