School Health Program

Role of Our Registered Nurse (RN)
Our Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing services, overseeing the training and support of school health aides and secretaries responsible for providing health care services to students.

Services Provided to Students

Management of chronic conditions such as asthma, allergies, diabetes, and seizures.
Coordinated communication regarding student health care needs among staff.
Assessment and response to acute illnesses or injuries.
CPR and First Aid training for staff.
Development of Individualized Healthcare Plans for students with specific medical needs.
Training and supervision of school personnel in medication administration.

Medication Policy and Form

Cedar Springs Public Schools is dedicated to maintaining a drug-free environment. In line with this commitment and our school policies, all students who need to take prescription or over-the-counter medication during school hours must have a Medication Permission form signed by both their parent and physician.

Elementary Students
All medications must be dispensed by school staff.

Secondary Students (Grades 6-12)
Students may carry one dose of over-the-counter medication, such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Vaseline, Neosporin, cough drops, or eye drops. Alternatively, medication can be dispensed by school staff once the medical authorization form is completed.

To obtain a Medication Permission form, please visit the school office, our website, or contact Nurse Dailey directly via email. This form must be submitted and approved before any medication can be brought to school or dispensed. Our school does not provide over-the-counter medications. Parents or guardians must supply medications their child might need during school hours.

Should Your Child Stay Home Today?

Deciding whether to keep your child home from school can be challenging. To help prevent the spread of communicable diseases in our schools, here are some guidelines to consider:

Fever: Keep your child home if they have a temperature of 100.4°F or higher without the use of fever-reducing medications. In order to return to school your student should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
Vomiting: Your child should stay home if they have vomited two or more times in the last 24 hours.
Diarrhea: Keep your child at home if they have experienced three or more episodes of diarrhea in the last 24 hours.

These simple guidelines ensure that your child recovers fully and helps prevent the spread of illness to other students and staff.
